Football is part of life in Louisiana.

It’s not just a competition to prove who’s better than whom. It’s a social event that brings people together and creates a unique bond with everyone else in this state we love. We spend our whole weekends cooking and laughing all to watch a game.

At Tigeraire, we want to improve that game however we can. The Cyclone is an attempt to lessen the risk of everyone’s least favorite part of football -- injuries.

The harsh reality is there are dangers to this sport we love. While it brings everyday people like us together, it also has the potential to seriously damage our bodies. We know that all too well.

Co-creator of the Cyclone Marco Falconi was once taken to the hospital during a high school football practice.

“I loved playing football, but that experience has always stuck with me,” Falconi says. “I’ve always wondered how I could maybe one day make a difference in a way that would keep players safer, especially kids.”

Keeping players cooler was the simplest immediate solution. Heat stroke is the leading cause of death among high school football players, and high body temperature correlates greatly with most other injuries.

By blowing air over the face and skin, the entire body can be cooled and the risk of heat-related injury is significantly reduced.

Falconi says the scariest part of his incident is it’s not isolated and he’s met many people who have had similar experiences.

“It seems like a lot of people I’ve met who also played football had an experience like this or knew someone who did,” Falconi said. “I hope that Tigeraire can make situations like this far less common.”

That’s what the Cyclone was created for. Not to make players run faster or focus better, to be safer. When it comes to safety, we’re all on the same team.
